Date & Time Wizard in IBM SPSS Statistics

In IBM SPSS Statistics, you can work inside a single, integrated interface to run descriptive statistics, regression, advanced statistics, and machine learning models. When working with data that includes dates and times, managing and transforming it can be a complex task. However, in IBM SPSS Statistics, the Date and Time Wizard offers a complete set of tools that make this process straightforward. This user-friendly tool is intuitive and easy to use, guiding you through the process of managing and transforming date and time data.

When you open the Wizard date and time, you are asked what you want to do. Users can

  1. Learn how dates and times are represented in IBM SPSS Statistics
  2. Create a date/time variable from a string containing a date or time
  3. Create a date/time variable from a variable holding parts of dates or times
  4. Calculate with dates and times
  5. Extract part of a date or time variable
  6. Assign periodicity to a dataset (for time series data)

In this tech tip, we will demonstrate how to use the Date and Time Wizard. We have data with dates (year, month, day) and we will create date variables. We will also show you how to create a new variable ‘age’ from date of birth. Completing these tasks is quick and easy in the tool and follows a series of steps that make data transformation effortless.
