Posted on

To improve your experience using IBM SPSS Statistics, the Version 1 SPSS experts have created various Tech Tips. This Tech Tip shows how to hide columns in output in IBM SPSS Statistics. The option to hide columns is new in IBM SPSS Statistics version 29.0.1.

In IBM SPSS Statistics, you can work inside a single, integrated interface to run descriptive statistics, regression, advanced statistics and machine learning models. You can create publication-ready charts, tables, and decision trees in one tool. IBM SPSS Statistics is easy to use, provides analysis automation, comprehensive statistical tools, integration with open source, and help at your fingertips.

Output from procedures can produce many tables. Each table can contain multiple columns that provide a complete overview of variables and test results. Users may want to hide a column or columns in output to simplify and clarify results.

For example, a Frequencies procedure provides four columns. These are Frequency, Percent, Valid Percent and Cumulative Percent. Users may only want to show the Frequency and Valid Percent columns. To do this, run the table. Once the table is in an output file, right-click on the table and choose Modify Output. The Modify Output option contains several useful options. These are: Modify Output Wizard, Transpose Table, Hide Column, Sort Column and Highlight Cells in Column.

To hide a column, right-click on your output and select Modify Output and Hide Column. Once you have selected the Hide Column option, a drop-down list will appear with a list of the table columns. To hide the Percent column, select it from the list and click Continue. This column will now be hidden. Next, right-click on your output, select Modify Output and Hide Column. Select Cumulative Percentage from the drop-down list and click Continue. The Cumulative Percent column is now hidden. Using the Modify Output is a useful tool that provides several options to change, simplify and clarify your output.
