View Data

This Tech Tip shows how to use View Data in IBM SPSS Modeler. IBM SPSS Modeler users have a complete toolset to build predictive models from start to finish. Modeler uses node-based, visual programming. Users pick nodes from palettes and place them on the stream canvas. Once nodes have been placed on the stream canvas and edited, they can be linked to form a stream. A stream represents a flow of data through several operations (nodes) to a destination that can be in the form of output (either text or chart), a model, or the export of data to another format (e.g., a database).

IBM SPSS Modeler is an extensive predictive analytics platform designed to bring predictive intelligence to decisions made by individuals, groups, systems, and the enterprise. It has an easy-to-use drag-and-drop user interface and a complete set of tools for accessing data, data examination, preparation, modelling, evaluation, and deployment.

Given the breadth of tasks needed to build models, intuitive data examination and understanding tools are critical. The View Data node is an easy-to-use tool that allows users to create new charts and explore and understand data. To get started, users only need to right-click on a node in the stream and select View Data. This will open the View Data window. Users have two options. Users can choose a chart type or select the field that they want to visualise. If users select a field, they can click on the Visualise Data button. A visualisation of the field is provided. Also, dots appear by suggested charts that can also be used. Users will have the option to add fields and change chart types. There are multiple chart types. These are: Histogram, Q-Q plot, Box Plot, Time Plot, Scatter plot, Line, Multi-series, Population Pyramid, Pie, Bar, Parallel, Relationship, Heat Map, t-SNE, Word cloud, Map, Treemap, Radar, Theme River, Circle pack, Bubble, Error bar, Scatterplot, Candlestick, Multi-chart and Dual Y-axes. Users can also add titles to charts and save charts. Users can also obtain a Data Audit for a complete audit and overview of data quality. Users can also see the data in a spreadsheet.
